A Maryland woman’s accidental purchase turned into a $50,000 win — her second major lottery prize in just a few years.
The Frederick woman told Maryland Lottery officials that she stopped at the Washingtonian Express convenience store in Frederick and bought three $50,000 CASH tickets, even though she only meant to buy two.
“This whole thing was an accident,” she recalled. “I wanted to buy two $50,000 CASH tickets but hit the quantity button an extra time by accident.”
That extra ticket — the one she hadn’t intended to buy — turned out to be the lucky one. It earned her a $50,000 prize.
Not Her First Time at Lottery Headquarters
This isn’t her first brush with good fortune. She previously visited lottery headquarters back in 2021, where she claimed a $100,000 prize from a bingo themed scratch off ticket.
“That this could happen to me again, it’s just mind boggling,” she said.
Keeping Quiet This Time
Despite the excitement, the winner decided to stay quiet while in the store.
“The store was crowded so I fought back the urge to shout it out, to tell everyone what had just happened.”
She added that she plans to keep this most recent win a secret.
