Maryland Woman Accidentally Buys Extra Lottery Ticket, Wins $50,000 Again

A Maryland woman’s accidental purchase turned into a $50,000 win — her second major lottery prize in just a few years.

The Frederick woman told Maryland Lottery officials that she stopped at the Washingtonian Express convenience store in Frederick and bought three $50,000 CASH tickets, even though she only meant to buy two.

“This whole thing was an accident,” she recalled. “I wanted to buy two $50,000 CASH tickets but hit the quantity button an extra time by accident.”

That extra ticket — the one she hadn’t intended to buy — turned out to be the lucky one. It earned her a $50,000 prize.

Not Her First Time at Lottery Headquarters

This isn’t her first brush with good fortune. She previously visited lottery headquarters back in 2021, where she claimed a $100,000 prize from a bingo-themed scratch-off ticket.

“That this could happen to me again, it’s just mind-boggling,” she said.

Keeping Quiet This Time

Despite the excitement, the winner decided to stay quiet while in the store.

“The store was crowded so I fought back the urge to shout it out, to tell everyone what had just happened.”

She added that she plans to keep this most recent win a secret.
